What happens when you are working in your company files and suddenly all of your information is gone? This such incident just happened to me. At first, you think, surely this is a simple mistake, let me go back…Well, that didn’t work. Then ideas start racing through your head, …Oh god, did I delete everything? Then your heart starts racing faster and faster… Is it salvageable? How long will this take to fix? Will my coworkers and boss banish me? Am I doomed?
Luckily I didn’t have to question, who should I call? Our company has the best customer support already- us! The great thing about working for a company that provides tech support for their customers is that I can get great support quickly and easily, simply by sending a quick chat message or dialing an extension – I am currently working at home because of covid otherwise, I would just yell to their office as we work in the next room.
This is how it all began:
My boss nicely asked me to update some missing information for our customers in QuickBooks. I willfully obliged as the list wasn’t very long, and it was good practice to not overlook this step in the future. As I was working in recurring transactions in QuickBooks for our hosted customers, I suddenly couldn’t find one of our customers, and then another, until I realized all but one were gone.. poof.. disappeared like a ninja after a smoke bomb.
Before I asked for help, I knew that our files were backed up every night, just like we provide for our customers. So I couldn’t have done too much damage. I also researched that there is no way to delete all recurring transactions, so I knew it wasn’t a button that I had accidentally pressed.
As I said, I knew where to go for help. The reply was very speedy with a helpful response that was, “Maybe it’s under a different name?” Which I knew wasn’t the case because I had already checked that. Then he said that he would check and look. I was immediately advised to log off and log back in – as he had corrected the issue lickity-split. The information was still there, thank goodness. No need to redo data entry.
Since I was no longer worried about losing information and the time it would take to fix it, that got me thinking, that I had just gotten the opportunity to experience our tech support firsthand, and it was superb! Now I can see why our customers are always so grateful.
